Carowinds is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, right at the heart of where the Carolinas come together – literally! Half of the park is in North Carolina and the other half is in South Carolina. The dream was to build a place where people could come together to build memories, to be entertained, and most importantly, to be happy. The man behind this dream was E. Pat Hall. Known for his financial success with many projects in the Carolinas, Hall’s goal was to develop a theme park destination that would provide thrilling rides, music concerts, and performance shows. Carowinds opened its doors in 1973 and has been fulfilling dreams every year since.

Despite its humble beginnings, Carowinds has grown to become the large-scale amusement park it is today. Attracting roughly 2 million visitors each year, it’s now home to a collection of over 50 unique attractions, including a total of 16 roller coasters! As soon as you arrive at Carowinds, you’ll gaze upon the massive and ferocious Fury 325, the world’s tallest, fastest giga coaster with heights reaching 325 feet tall and breathtaking speeds of 95 miles per hour – it’s full throttle all the way. Carowinds is home to two of North America’s tallest steel roller coasters, including Carolina Harbor, the largest waterpark in the Carolinas. Carolina Harbor celebrates the culture of the Carolina coast while serving up a gracious helping of hospitality, relaxation, and family fun– all intertwined to create the ultimate waterpark experience. This historic expansion includes new attractions for all members of the family. From a thrilling new six-story tall waterslide complex with unbelievable drop slides, a new two-acre family play area for kids and toddlers to an abundance of new amenities and dining options.

Throughout October, guests can also experience multiple terrifying mazes, walkthrough creepy scare zones, or even be frightened by roaming actors. And in addition to all this, visitors get to ride roller coasters in the dark. Several months later, at the end of the year, Carowinds is also host to the recently introduced Winterfest event. Held during December, guests can get in the festive mood thanks to millions of shimmering lights, an ice skating rink, and a range of winter holiday foods. What originally started off as a casual amusement park for the locals, is now on course to become a full destination resort. It’s likely that because of this, Carowinds will not only attract more visitors but also begin to become a multi-day destination for tourists around the world.

The Carowinds is located at 14523 Carowinds Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28273, its phone number is (704) 588-2600. If you’re in the area also do not forget to visit Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.
